Summary

  • Basic Description
    • The scribe is responsible to capture accurate and detailed documentation of patient encounters in the electronic health record (EHR) or by handwritten record. Scribes are not permitted to make independent decisions or translations while entering information into the medical record.
  • Specialized Knowledge, Experience and Skills
    (Education, Experience and Skills required to fully perform the requirements of the position)
    • Degree / Education
      • High School Diploma/GED
    • Level of Experience
      • 2 YEARS Experience in Medical Office, clinical, or hospital setting. Experience in medical transcription is preferred.
    • Lic./Cert./Reg.
      • All licensure must be current/valid and from the state of West Virginia.
      • Medical Terminology
    • Typing/Word Processing skills required for this position
      • Keyboard proficiency (70 WPM or 200 lines per hour).
      • Must be able to pass medical terminology test.
    • Computer Skills required for this position
      • Experience working in an EHR.
      • Demonstrated computer experience with data entry and Microsoft Office.
      • Experience in Dragon or other voice recognition software.

      • Formalized training in Medical Transcription, Medical Terminology, and/or Physiology may be substituted for medical transcription experience.

      • The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department’s identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients.
